Charlie Benante first appeared in a live show at the age of 15. At that time, he joined the band, Cover, which has four performances per evening. Later , he became the drummer at a band, Anthrax. The other founders of this band were guitarist Scott Ian, Bassist Dan Lilker, Dan Spitz, and Joey Belladonna. 

During his tenure at band, Anthrax, Charlie recorded numerous albums, including  and . These all were certified gold by RIAA. He is also famous for having a rapid double-bass technique and is one of the pioneers of using Blast Beats in thrash metal, in addition to possessing an excellent rebound technique.
