A celebration of 50 years
“It’s kind of a chance to celebrate the 50 years we’ve been out here,” Joe Perry told The Associated Press about their final tour.
He also added that the band “thought it was time,” as each member of the group is over 70 years old, with Steven being the oldest at 75.
“You never know how much longer everybody’s going to be healthy to do this. … It’s been a while since we’ve actually done a real tour. We did that run in Vegas, which was great. It was fun, but (we’re) kind of anxious to get back on the road.“
Joe told the outlet that more dates domestically and internationally “could be coming.”
“It’s the final farewell tour, but I have a feeling it will go on for a while,” he said.
“But I don’t know how many times we’ll be coming back to the same cities. It could very possibly be the last time.”
More on Steven Tyler's memoir
Steven Tyler got candid about his addiction in his memoir.
One portion of the book reads: "After two encores in Madison Square Garden, you don't go and play shuffleboard or Yahtzee, you know?
"You go and rock the f**k out. We believe that the road to wisdom was through excess. But it got really bad in the '80s.
"Stupidly, naively, when I had an album that didn't do as good as the one before it, my thinking was well, obviously I didn't drink nearly enough."
He added: "What happens with using is, it works in the beginning, but it doesn't work in the end. It takes you down. There's nothing but jail, insanity or death."
Las Vegas residency cancellation
Aerosmith embarked on a Las Vegas residency last year before an abrupt end.
Frontman Steven Tyler relapsed and checked into rehab, forcing the band to cancel the dates at the tail end of their residency.
Tyler has been open about his struggle with addiction, revealing many personal details in his memoir, Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?
In the book, he revealed that he used cocaine, OxyContin, heroin, methamphetamine, methadone, and LSD.
He wrote: "I couldn't do enough.
"I couldn't get high enough."
Aerosmith’s Las Vegas residency
Aerosmith‘s Las Vegas residency was called Deuces Are Wild and began on June 17th of last year.
“Since opening in April 2019, AEROSMITH: DEUCES ARE WILD has received rave reviews from both fans and critics alike,” reads the description on the MGM Hotel’s website.
The show was hosted at the Dolby Live Theater.
The residency was cut short due to Steven Tyler's relapse.
